Knowing how and when to use emergency oxygen is a great skill and means you are prepared to help others in case of need. Becoming a PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider allows you to breathe easy knowing that you can recognize dive illnesses treatable with emergency oxygen and are prepared to offer relief.
There are no prerequisites, age restrictions or mandatory water sessions in this course – it is open to everyone. Freelance divers, snorkelers and anyone who is alongside divers – boat crews, lifeguards, etc. – will benefit from having this training.
You will learn about diving injuries, different types of emergency oxygen equipment and safety considerations when using oxygen. Next you will practice:
Assemble and disassemble emergency oxygen equipment.
Configure a one-way mask and a demand inhaler valve on a breathing diver.
Use a pocket mask on a diver who is not breathing.
Your PADI Instructor will have emergency oxygen equipment units available for training and your local dive center can help you acquire your own unit for use after classes. You may also need a disposable one-way mask for use during practical sessions which your instructor can help you obtain.
Visit your local PADI Dive Center and Resort to enroll in the course and obtain your PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Manual. Read the manual before class as directed by your instructor in preparation for the practical skills.
