Description
The appeal of depth. There is something exciting and mysterious about exploring deep dive sites while diving with autonomous equipment. Sometimes it is a wreck that attracts you below 18 meters/60 feet, and on wall dives it can be a sponge or a giant gorgonian. Whatever it takes, to dive confidently to depths of up to 40 meters/130 feet, you must take the PADI Deep Diver Specialty course.
If you have the PADI Adventure Diver rating or higher, and you are at least 15 years old, you can participate in the Deep Diver course.
Academic
Your training begins by reviewing the reasons for deep diving and how important it is to know your personal limits. During four deep dives with your instructor, you will review:
- Specialized equipment for deep diving.
- Deep dive planning, buddy contact procedures and buoyancy control.
- Managing your gas supply, dealing with gas narcosis and safety considerations.
- You can earn academic credit for the Deep Diver course – ask your instructor.
- In addition, the first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course can serve as an Adventure Dive credit toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about getting credit.
Team
You will need a dive computer in addition to the rest of your basic dive equipment. A diving flashlight and a slate are also recommended. Your PADI Instructor or local dive center staff can recommend other equipment suitable for local deep diving.
Starting
Get a PADI Deep Diver Crew-Pak that includes your manual and video by visiting your local PADI Dive Center and Resort to enroll in the course. Read the manual and watch the video before meeting with your PADI Instructor to plan your deep diving adventures.
