The course of instructor’s development (IDC) is form by two sections – the instructors assistant and the Open Water Scuba instructor program (OWSI). Most of the professional divers complete the full IDC and then assist to the instructor’s exam (IE), which is the final step to obtain the PADI instructors certification.

 

Once you finish the course, you obtain the PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When a AI is ready to progress, attending a OWSI program will allow you to participate in a IE in order to obtain the full level of PADI Instructor.

 

The professional divers that have achieved the level of instructor from another organization can be accepted in order to register in the OWSI program. This takes you on the way to become a PADI Instructor.

 

A PADI Divemaster is a certified diver since at least six months ago, can register to the PADI Instructors Development course. You will also need:

  • 60 registered diving sessions and a 100 diving sessions in order to assist to a IE.
  • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (RCP and first aid) updated training within the last 24 months.
  • A signed medical declaration within the last 12 months.
  • You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor although you can obtain this level during your instructor training.

 

Academic

It has a duration of a minimum of five days but it is normally seven days. The IDC will show you how to teach all the important PADI courses.  You could organize and provide information, give lessons about knowledge development and control the diving sessions in open water. So basically, you will become a public speaker and you will be showing your skills will observing the safety of the students.  The topics include:

  • PADI Standards and procedures of the courses that you will teach on workshops while in water.
  • Learning, instructions and PADI system
  • Management of health and safety of a diver
  • The diving business and your position as an instructor
  • Diving marketing and sales counselling

You can obtain academic credits for the Assistant Instructor and the Instructors developments courses.

Beginning

Register online on the IDC the PADI eLearning option that allows you to study at your own pace. There are nine interactive sections about knowledge development.  The online method safe time in class so it gives more time to practice the skills that it characterized as a PADI Instructor.

 

Also register for the online diving theory. If you haven’t done it yet or it hasn’t been more than one year ago when you last did it. The program is a easy review of the diving physics, physiology, skills, equipment and environment as well as using the Recreational Dive Planner (RDP). Once you complete the only diving theory, you can obtain credit for the requirement of exam of diving theory during your IDC.

What is a IE?

An Instructors exam is a program that evaluate your capacities, knowledge of the diving theory, skills level and understanding of the PADI system, attitude and professionalism for becoming an instructor. It has a duration of two days.  The PADI IE are standardized and managed by PADI Instructors Examiners trained specially. The location of the IE, the environment of the exam and the evaluative sessions are planned to be the most objective as possible in order to evaluate in a fear manner and coherent about the candidate’s skills. Only those that meet the requirements of an IE can obtain the PADI Instructors certification. There is a fee to attend to an IE.
