Be the diver that everyone wants to follow because you know where you are and where you are going. The PADI Underwater Navigator course improves your observation techniques and teaches you to use the compass more accurately underwater. If you like challenges with great rewards, take this course and have fun finding your way.

If you are a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can sign up for the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course.

You will learn the tools of the trade, including navigation using natural references and following directions of the compass. During three dives, you will practice:

  • Methods to estimate distances under water.
  • Navigation with compass making at least five turns.
  • Mark or relocate a submerged object or a position from the surface.
  • Making underwater maps.
  • You can get academic credits for the underwater navigation course – ask your instructor.

In addition, the first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course can serve as a credit as an Adventure Immersion for your Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Ask your instructor how to obtain the credit.

In addition to your basic diving equipment, you will need a compass and an underwater slate. Your PADI Instructor or local dive center staff can recommend other equipment to help you stay focused, such as marking buoys or ropes and reels.

Ask us to sign up for the course and pick up a PADI Underwater Navigator Crew-Pak that includes your manual and video. Studying before class, you will be better prepared to start practicing your navigation techniques when you meet with your PADI Instructor.
